Pedal power raises thousands for autism charity

A group of 140 intrepid cyclists have raised £45,000 for charity after taking part in the seventh annual Anderson Group charity bike ride around the country lanes of West Essex.
The cyclists, made up of staff, families, industry partners and suppliers, took part in the 55-mile bike ride on June 9th, passing through scenic villages including Margaretting, Fyfield, Hatfield Broad Oak and Pleshey.
The riders were rewarded upon completion with a barbecue, DJ and entertainment at the Chelmsford-based construction firm’s headquarters.
Managing Director Andrew Jay, who took part in the ride, said: “We were blessed with perfect weather which showed the glorious Essex countryside at its best. All of our riders smashed it!
“Thanks to them, we have raised a fantastic sum for the National Autistic Society, which is supported by our in-house charity, the Anderson Foundation.”
Group Chairman Mark Anderson added: “It’s a long way and a real challenge for many people, so I’d like to say a very big thank you to all those who took part.”
The Anderson Group recently built and opened the brand new NAS Anderson School in Chigwell for the National Autistic society, which supports people with autism and Asperger syndrome. The school, which opened last September, and is already making a difference to young peoples’ lives, will cater for 128 children aged 11-19.
